Danny Glover is the latest Hollywood star to throw support behind a candidate in this year’s New York City mayoral election, Page Six reported, backing Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams.
“Hello, my friends, all of you in New York City. I am Danny Glover, and I am supporting Eric Adams as mayor of New York, the next mayor of New York,” the “Lethal Weapon” star reportedly says in a new campaign ad.
Glover, an activist known for being politically outspoken, adds, “I believe in his programs, his ideas, his integrity to bring real justice to the city.”
Glover is one of several celebrities to endorse a candidate ahead of the Democratic primary next week, although Adams doesn’t have as many in his corner as some other hopefuls.
Amy Schumer, Daniel Dae Kim and John Leguizamo have all backed former White House candidate Andrew Yang, according to Page Six, while Forbes reported that Gwyneth Paltrow, Spike Lee, Steve Martin and Mary J. Blige are among those supporting former Citigroup exec Ray McGuire, who has vowed to boost New York’s film tax credit.
Former City Hall legal counsel Maya Wiley reportedly has the support of Alyssa Milano, Rosie O’Donnell and Patton Oswalt, among others.
Adams is considered to be one of the race’s front-runners, along with former New York City Sanitation Commissioner Kathryn Garcia, according to recent polls.
A Democratic mayoral primary will be held June 22, with the winner expected to cruise to victory in the Nov. 2 general election.
